Color renovation and sneak peek...

Hello again - yes, it's been a while. Too long, I suppose, but life has a way of throwing curve balls and a person can't hit it out of the ballpark every time! However, it's time to play catch up, so that's what I'll try to do... Today, I thought I'd post about Stampin' Up's recently announced color renovation that will occur with the new 2010-2011 catalog season. Beginning on July 1 with the 2010-2011 Catalog, there will be 4 new color collections. From what I understand, Stampin' Up has been researching this change for a couple of years, so this update was not taken lightly. Really, it was time to revamp! The new collections are vibrant, fresh, and I'm excited to begin using them!

Here are the important deets. There will be a foundation of 40 Core Colors. 25 will be current core colors, 10 returning In Colors and 5 new colors to make up the new collections. The 25 current colors that were chosen to continue are the following:

Regal Rose, Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Real Red, Chocolate Chip, Sahara Sand, Very Vanilla, Whisper White, Basic Gray, Basic Black, Elegant Eggplant, Night of Navy, Not Quite Navy, Always Artichoke, Garden Green, More Mustard, Bravo Burgundy, Pretty in Pink, Rose Red, Perfect Plum, Bashful Blue, Certainly Celery, So Saffron, and Kraft (now called Crumb Cake).

The 10 returning In Colors that made the "core color cut" (try saying that 5 times fast!) are the following: Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry, Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango, River Rock, Soft Suede, Riding Hood Red, Pink Pirouette, Baja Breeze, and Wild Wasabi.

Stampin' Up will be providing 5 new core colors in our collections. They are the following: Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso, Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler, and Marina Mist.

In addition to these 40 core colors, Stampin' Up is keeping the introduction of new In Colors every year. However, they have changed the way the In Colors system works - the In Colors will be available now for 2 years! There will be 5 new In Colors introduced in the new 2010-2011 catalog this July, and they won't be retired until June 2012. In addition, there will be another set of five In Colors introduced in the 2011-2012 catalog next July, and they won't be retired until June 2013. This means there will be 10 "new" In Colors at a given time starting July 2011. This rotation will help keep us using the contemporary and popular hot color trends. I'm not sure that I can say the names of the new, upcoming In Colors on the blog just yet - but let me say that they really sound delish!!!

So with this good news, there is alittle bit of sad. The following listing are the colors that will be retired as of June 30, 2010:

Glorious Green, Green Galore, Gable Green, YoYo Yellow, Only Orange, Pink Passion, Pixie Pink, Orchid Opulence, Lovely Lilac, Brilliant Blue, Close to Cocoa, Creamy Caramel, Really Rust, Ruby Red, Cameo Coral, Summer Sun, Bordering Blue, Brocade Blue, Ballet Blue, Taken with Teal, Handsome Hunter, Pale Plum, Blush Blossom, Apricot Appeal, Barely Banana, Mellow Moss, Sage Shadow, Almost Amethyst, Lavender Lace, Basic Brown, and Going Gray.

There's plenty of time to really think about the retiring colors that you use the most, and stock up on supplies, if that's what you'd like to do. I've been through a couple color reorganizations (as a customer) with SU over the years. After thinking about this long and hard, I found that I often didn't reach for those retired colors when working on projects. So, I'm thrilled to have new colors to play with.... and I hope that you are, too!

Today's card at the top of this post is using a layout from Sketch Challenge 276 posted this week over at Splitcoaststampers. The stamps come from a soon-to-be-available stamp set called Elements of Style. Lots of fun, vintage-style images and sentiments are included with this set. The flowers and leaves were watercolored with markers and aquapainter. They were touched up with a white gel pen for highlights, and alittle bit of Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint was dabbed on with a makeup applicator around the petals. It adds a wonderful shimmer of light-catching bling and I really love, love, love those Shimmer Paints. The background textured paper is from the new Square Lattice embossing folder that will be available from the Summer Mini Catalog on May 1st. The cardstock colors of this card are Rose Red, Close to Cocoa and White. The Old Olive patterned paper came from the SAB Welcome Neighbor paper pad stack. The little half-back pearls were colored with a greenish alcohol marker to match up the card better - though I suspect I didn't have to do that and it would have turned out just fine.

I hope that you have a great day, and I hope you can come back soon. I promise to be back as well.... :)
