Christmas Concert 2009 - MDS layout

This My Digital Studio layout is of one of my daughters, Sierra, at a Christmas concert in December of last year. She plays the viola - a beautiful instrument that is not as high-pitched as a violin. This is her 2nd year, and I hope that she continues to play for many years to come.

This particular layout uses an additional MDS digital download, Christmas Cocoa, for the background... it has all the lovely "papers" that were featured in the Holiday Mini Catalog. I really loved this red damask-type pattern, and changed the opacity of the paper to about 60% so that it wasn't so bright and competing directly with the photos.

Sorry this is so quick today, but I've got to start getting the kids up and off to school... thanks for visiting, and come back soon! :)

Lots of Bots to the Rescue!

Here's an example of a quick (for me!), last-minute birthday card for one of my kids' friends. I had to make it for a "tween" boy, so I stuck with browns and added no frills like ribbon to it. I really love the little robots in the "Lots of Bots" stamp set... and this one is my favorite of the group. This card took about 20 minutes to complete - faster than finding my shoes, keys, wallet, driving to the store, staring at cards, checking out, and driving home! Tee hee! Honestly, a big tip on saving time with any card is to find 3-5 "go-to" layouts (sketches) that you can fall back on whenever the need arises... these 3 panel layout cards are quick to put together and always look appealing!

I stamped the birthday robot on watercolor paper in black ink (omitting the "happy birthday human" sentiment), and colored him with various shades of brown SU markers. TIP - only color around the stamped lines, and use a slightly wet aquapainter to "move" the color around to create your lighter colored areas in each section. If you've found that you used too much marker color, use this method to remove the color by "cleaning off" your aquapainter by swiping the bristles on a paper towel. Repeat until you've removed your excess color. This does take a small amount of practice, but I'm sure you'd get the technique down quickly. Just remember to use really good quality watercolor paper like SU offers. It resists the water, moves the color more easily, and prevents pilling of your paper (little balls of paper as it breaks down from the water - very frustrating, so don't go there!). :)

The Really Rust patterned paper comes from the Hostess Level 1 Pattern Pack, and a sheet was cut down into 3 rectangular panels and glued to a Whisper White block. The edges of the white block were distressed using the Cutter Kit and then matted with Really Rust cardstock. This was glued to the Creamy Caramel cardbase. After matting the robot panel a couple times, I popped this up with dimensional popdots.

Stamps: Lots of Bots (pg 82 of the Idea Book & Catalog)
Paper: Creamy Caramel, Really Rust, & Whisper White cardstocks, Pattern Pack DSP III (pg 13), watercolor paper (pg 158)
Ink: black, various SU markers for coloring
Accessories: aquapainter (pg192), cutter kit (pg 191), dimensional popdots

I hope that you enjoy today's post - see you again soon!

Dove Hunting Trip - MDS Page

Here's another My Digital Studio 12x12 page. It was created after my younger son and DH went out to the desert/farmland areas south of Phoenix last October to hunt dove. My boys love hunting with DH, and were very disappointed that they did not get an elk this season. They had braved unseasonably cold, snowy weather up along the Mogollon Rim for 5 days in November, and I was greatly relieved when they arrived home safely. They did take some wonderful pictures, so I guess another page or two is in order!

I hope that you have a pleasant week, and I'm so happy that you stopped in! :)

I have had My Digital Studio software that Stampin'Up released for a few months now and am posting one of the first 8x8in 2-page spreads that I created with it. Leadership Swap Card

Hello again - last week I was able to attend the Stampin' Up! Leadership & Regional Conferences here in Phoenix, and it was a fantastic experience!! It was just the kick in the pants that I needed to attend to my love of Stampin' Up! and focus on my goals for this year and beyond. I met some fabulous people throughout the 4 day event, as well as gaining new insight about the business aspects of demoship. I am certain that I will be attending this event again, and if you'd like to join me, please consider signing up now during Sale-A-Bration where you'll be able to pick a stamp set valued up to $47.95 for Free, as well as get the Demonstrater Start Up Kit at 15% off! Click the Sale-A-Bration link to see the details of this wonderful event, and send an email to june@mycreativecorner.com to get my special password to sign up online! Can't get any easier than that! :)

The card shown above was made for my Leadership Swaps, and was put together using the following items below:
Stamps: Friends 24-7, Sanded Background
Paper: Vanilla, Soft Suede, Creamy Caramel
Inks: Soft Suede, Creamy Caramel
Accessories: Elegant Bouquet embossing folder, Lots of Tags Sizzlet Set, Bigshot, brayer, sponges, dimensional popdots

Assembly -
The Vanilla cardstock was embossed using the Elegant Bouquet folder/Bigshot, and stamped with the Sanded background two times in Creamy Caramel ink. These large backgrounds are easily inked up using a brayer rolled over the top of the rubber several times so that the ink coverage is even and consistent. I cut two of the oval shaped labels from the Lots of Tags Sizzlet die in Vanilla and Soft Suede cardstock. I stamped the sentiment on the Vanilla label in Soft Suede. Using sponges, I darkened the edges of the Vanilla piece & labels, then attacked the floral pattern to bring out its beauty with Creamy Caramel and Soft Suede inks. This was adhered to a Soft Suede mat, then finally to the Creamy Caramel cardbase. I cut the Soft Suede label in half on the short side, and attached each piece to the left/right sides of the Vanilla label. This was attached to the cardfront with dimensional popdots.

I hope you have a terrific day, and thank you for visiting with me!
